I think that is a nice machine for the money. However, I do not think the 15 inch sxga+ on the R52 is flexview (based on info from IBM's Personal Systems ref available here: ftp://ftp.software.ibm.com/pc/pcinstitu ... tabook.pdf). On the R51 it was, but no longer, which is a bummer....

If you check the psref under R52 (1847 model family for example) with SXGA+ displays there is no mention of flexview - contrast that to the R51 (1836 model family for example) page - it specifically says it is flexview in the display section 1/2 way down the page.

I'd still spring for the machine, it's a nice unit.

So no more R51? I cannot find it on the IBM site, only the R51e! After recieving my new R51 with Flexview i wanted to buy another one but now it's not available. I must say i really love the Flexview and will only get a thinkpad with the flexview option as i absolutely love it.

Looks like the 1836 models may still be available (check the PS Ref link above). I'd call IBM and ask them versus checking the site if you are willing to wait a little while for one you might be able to get one.

You may be able to find them available from resellers (like www.cdw.com) as well...

found the 1836 on cdw but only with XGA. I guess we'll have to wait and see if Lenovo brings the R51 with flexview back on their site.

But it's an R51 with SXGA, which means it's a Flexview. Not bad for that price. DDR RAM cost more than DDR2 now though, but not by much.

less performance as compared to what? There are a lot of people that consider the whole Thinkpad line to be weak in performance, when compared to their dual core AMD X-2, 7800 GTX gpu enabled laptops. It really depends on what you want to use it for, multimedia, gaming or business. I agree about the price but then CDW was never known for low prices! ;-)

I doubt you'll see any noticeable difference in real life day to day operations with the faster ram but in synthetic benchmarks, sure.

Well, that is your opinion, you are definately entitled to it. However, the inline poster was looking specifically for R51's with SXGA+ Flexview - this is an older product line. Sometimes you have to give a little (marginally in performance in this case) to get a little (the exact screen you want).

Otherwise they'd need to look at the T series for current spec'ed machines with SXGA+ flexview displays.
