Passphrase Rejection
I went to modify my settings on client security. The window asked for my passphrase. I typed in the phrase I wrote down and it failed login. I tried several other passwords I've used before but no luck.
Ideas? Thoughts?

I had this issue and I finally realised it was because I had changed the Administrator account's NAME to my own account... Windows XP allows this but the IBM subsecurity system was foxed by it (it requires the Administrator account's passphrase and doesn't see the Administrator account if the name was changed by Windows). That isn't perchance your problem, is it? (I had to boot into safe mode and managed to fix it that way.)

That may have something to do with it.
When I initially set up the CSS thing I did it in my windows identity not in windows administrator. I never really used the CSS much after I set it up. I was originally trying to work with the password manager and the fingerprint reader but it never worked right and I gave up.
I just use the fingerprint reader instead of a windows password.
I noticed the problem when I tried to install a new update on the fingerprint reader and all the fingerprint stuff turned off. I couldn't get into the CSS adminstration box to get the fingerprint settings back together.
I tried to unninstall the CSS and it wont as it says the "Client Security System is not initialized" and I should "run setup wizard or configuration utility to configure the system".

In bios I've turned the chip off checked the passphrase and then on and checked the passphrase with no luck. Is that what you mean? Or is their some other reset?TimWang wrote:I had that problem too so I just reset the Security Chip.

My original problem was that I couldn't login into Windows at all - my passphrase was being rejected by the IBM security subsystem, even though I knew I had it right. Turned out the problem was because before installing the IBM security subsystem I had changed the Windows administrator account to a different name, but the security subsystem was expecting it to be called 'Administrator' and hence was keeping me out.
I think when booting into Windows Safe Mode (hold down F8 at startup to select) the security system isn't loaded, and even if you cannot get in through the main Windows login screen because the security subsystem is blocking you, you can still boot into safe mode. From here I managed to deactivate the subsystem and then login to Windows normally and reconfigure it.
That's as much as I can remember. I don't remember changing anything in the BIOS. Have you tried calling IBM about it? You could mention that other users had similar problems when changing the administrator account name. Perhaps they will be able to give you instructions for a fix.

I got it all fixed now. I started by disabling the chip and passphrase in bios. Then I went to the control panel>embedded security subsystem and reconfigured the system. It reset the chip and took the passphrase properly and then I was back in buisiness.
Don't know why it got screwed up. Some kind of IBM update tweaked it I think.
