FAT32 and NTFS on T40

#1 Post by Yakuza389 » Thu Feb 23, 2006 9:50 pm

I need help with this one. I recently added a Gig of Ram. Now I have two IBM_Preload (C) NTFS and IBM_Service (E) FAT32. How do I convert FAT32 into the NTFS?....any suggestions?

Thanks,

john

start windows in maintenance mode. run 'cmd' and type 'convert c: /fs:ntfs'. follow instruction and wait a little. Enjoy.

It sounds as though you're trying to convert your service partition to NTFS and that is REALLY not recommended. This area is run by mini version of Windows that likely cannot read from NTFS and you'll render your PDA inoperable. I'm not sure about the exact effect but this is your hidden protected area that contains your factory recovery information as well as the preboot area to allow for Rescue and Recovery so I wouldn't mess with it.

whoops! i've misread the fact that C is already ntfs! As croowe said, don't change that!
T440s OK so far.
T420s NVIDIA graphics. Nice, then MB failure.
T400s Workhorse. two of'em, both faulty display with vertical stripes.
T43 °very nice° - MB reflown and dead, two of'em.
T42 15°, dead onboard wireless.
T40, dead memory slot, stolen from me
T30, stolen from me
