T-30 Screen Distortion

#1 Post by Kanilas » Fri Feb 24, 2006 5:57 am

Hi Everyone. When I try to load any game that would use the video card, after a 10-15 seconds, the entire screen starts getting filled with wavy lines, making play, or seeing the screen impossible. These lines continue for as long as I am in the application (Longest I've tried is 6 minutes) without getting better or worse. If I Alt-ESC to the Desktop, the lines dissapear. When I re-enter the game, they re-appear. I tried using Alt-PrintScreen, and the image came up fine when I pasted it into Paint. What I think is also worth mentioning is that until I sent the machine off to EZ Serv there were no problems at all with it, aside from the reason it was sent to them. (Unrelated, was a faulty wireless chip) But for about a week after I got it back from EZ SERV, everything was fine. Until one day, it just stopped responding. The latest thing that had been installed was the application for a PCMIA Wireless card.

NOTE: At one point prior to this happening, I had tried Omega Drivers.

My last question is this: Should I go to IBM/Lenovo's website for drivers, or ATI themselves? I'll provide you with anything that might help you figure this out, just say what you need.

Please, please help me, this problem is driving me insane!

IBM T-30
Type:2366
1.8 Ghz CPU
1022 MB PC2100 RAM
16MB ATI Mobility Radeon 7500

I eagerly await any responses,
Kanilas

Kanilas:

You might try disabling screen expansion. This is typically the default setting for ThinkPads, and I've seen it cause distortion. You can disable it in one of two ways. 1: In ThinkPad configuration, display settings, there should be an option for screen expansion, which I typically set to disable. 2. During boot, and immediately after POST, depress the Fn and F8. After you have disabled screen expansion, you may have to adjust your display settings for your tastes.

for drivers, ATI's wont work. IBM's are old, and i typically use omega drivers, never had an issue. the official ATI ones, even if you use mobility modder on them, will not support powerplay.
