Thinkpad 390x, XP and Wireless PCMCIA card

#1 Post by tjcusick » Fri Feb 24, 2006 9:17 am

I have an older PIII Thinkpad 390x 2626-L0U laptop. Its a good old machine and works decently well, up till now.

I originally had Win 98 on it but it ran very slowly, so i thought to upgrade it by putting it to Win XP and that did help in some of the speed issues, but now for some reason every time I turn it on it is having problems recognizing my D-Link DWL-G630 AirPlus G Wireless PCMCIA card.

It seems like i have to fiddle with the card everytime i reboot or turn the machine off. Some times the machine will instantly recognize the card and connect to my wireless router, but the majority of the time i spend about 2-3 hours messing with it to get the machine to recognize the card even exists. And if i remove the PCMCIA card I have to reboot because the machine doesn't want to seem to see it at all after it is removed. It keeps giving me "This device caused an Error (code -10)" (or something similiar to that. All attempts to find out why that error is happening have gone unresolved.

Has anyone had any similar issues with this same laptop or other ibm laptops?
Does anyone have any suggestions? (Besides getting a new laptop which is in the works...)

Thanks in advance for any suggestions/comments
