I don't know. Haven't even tried. After what has happened, I have been waiting to get some advice on that has happened, before I make a bad situation worse.
Until I find out that the extent of the possibible damage is, and what to do next, I'm keeping the drive on my bench.

I think you would answer your question if you ran chkdisk. If you installed the windows XP upgrade and it converted to NTFS ok you should have a good drive.
