Any truth to the bios lockout of certain Wifi Cards?

#1 Post by Helix » Wed Jul 21, 2004 6:08 am

Hi all,

I have an R40 2722-B4M. I have heard that only IBM cards will work in the minipci slot. I bought a Toshiba Wifi card made by Agere on ebay for a great price, and to my surprise it works fine. No bios errors or messages. The internal IBM wifi indicator doesn't work, nor can I turn it off with the Fn-F5 key, but it supports both antennas and works well for me.

Am i just lucky? Is the Australian model different? Is the toshiba card one of the ones supported in the bios? I am worried about updating the bios in case i lose this card's functionality.

Regards,

Josh

You are lucky, as Agere cards are not affected by the Bios lockout. It is not only IBM cards, it is cards that IBM supports (that means some Agere cards, IBM rebranded orinoco cards and Cisco 350 cards).
