CPU Speed display less normal in SYSTEM PROPERTIES

#1 Post by vietdo » Wed Jul 21, 2004 7:55 am

I got my new thinkpad 2373GVU with 1.8Ghz CPU, but when I check it in SYSTEM PROPERTIES show that: first line showed Pentinum (R) M Processcor 1800 Mhz, but second line it just showed 700 Mhz. I wonder is it something wrong on my system, or it just showed wrong in System Property and it still run full speed 1.8Ghz. Do I need to return, or need support or something else. Please. :?

Unfortunately WinXP doesn't 'read' the processor speed very accurately - there's nothing wrong with your system, we ALL suffer the same - do a search in the forum and you'll find details of a tiny applet you can download that will sit in your system tray and tell the correct speed...

vietdo - you do realize that the CPU can lower its clock speed to save power/reduce heat...right? If you want it to do otherwise then you can change that setting in the Battery Maximiser.

http://www.diefer.de/speedswitchxp/
speedswitchxp is that little app ...

Mine was showing 700MHz in system properties too (like most everyone else), so I changed the CPU Power mangement setting in the Power Management > Advanced tab in Thinkpad Configuration.
I set it from automatic to disable and restarted my T42 - system properties then showed 1.69 GHz. But, since I wasn't sure of any adverse effects for disabling the CPU power management, I re-enabled it and restarted.
But now my system properties still shows the correct 1.69 GHz

No problem .. I had just installed it 5 minutes before I read this thread.
I was reading another thread, and that is where it led me.

Lots of good info here ... makes me want to contribute too. :D
