T43 BIOS Bootsplash Screen

#1 Post by Jason986 » Sun Feb 26, 2006 1:15 am

Hello,

I am trying to change the bootsplash screen on my T43 machine by using the instructions at ThinkWiki.

My problem is that I cannot figure out how to take an image and convert it to a "16-Color 640 x 480 4-Bit BMP file" in Photoshop 6.0. The lowest I can go is 8-Bit. I was wondering if either someone could walk me through the process or if someone could do the conversion for me if I provided them with the image file.

Thanks.

Maybe Photoshop is too much of a sledgehammer? The MSPaint.exe tool in XP has the option to save BMPs as 4-bit color (16 colors). Perhaps use that tool instead?

Doh!

Now why didn't I think of that? I didn't think Paint would work, but low and behold you were right. Now I have the custom image I wanted as my BIOS splash screen.

Thanks.

Or, as thinkwiki suggests, use Gimp, the free powerful graphic editor.
T440s OK so far.
T420s NVIDIA graphics. Nice, then MB failure.
T400s Workhorse. two of'em, both faulty display with vertical stripes.
T43 °very nice° - MB reflown and dead, two of'em.
T42 15°, dead onboard wireless.
T40, dead memory slot, stolen from me
T30, stolen from me
TP600 dead
