max hard drive size 1200i series thinkpad

#1 Post by nexus » Wed Jul 21, 2004 8:17 am

Hi all
I googled for couple of hours, then emailed ibm after looking at their site for about an hour, asking what the max hard drive i could put in this 1200i series thinkpad laptop (1161 25m).
My old one died.... But the machine is otherwise sweet as, runs debian nicely.
IBM replied with a link to purchase either another 6 gig, or 12 gig. I was thinking more like buying a 40 gig model :)

After a bit of searching in these forums, i notice other laptops that are lower specs than mine are able to handle hdd up to 8-0 gig so maybe my question is superfuous :)

Thanks
Jake

You've probably got your answer by now, but I put the 20GB drive I took out of my R31 into my i1200 41U and it works fine.

I don't know how our two models differ, but I actually took the image of the 6GB HDD that came with it and copied it onto the 20GB so it's got a 4 GB partition, the recovery section, and a 13GB partition. But I don't see why it wouldn't work fine with Linux as the BIOS didn't seem to have any trouble with it.

Maybe this will help someone else....
