CD/DVD drive not working

#1 Post by enx23 » Sun Feb 26, 2006 7:58 am

My Matshita UJDA745 CD/DVD drive in a IBM Thinkpad T40 cannot read at all any CD or DVD data. Windows XP shows that it function correctly but still the drive cannot read anything.

I had this problem in the past and I fixed by changing some DMA settings but I am not sure that remeber right.

Does anyone has an idea what is wrong and how can I fix it?

Do you have the opportunity to borrow or bring your drive to another T4X?

Try the following. Go to Start > Control Panel > System > Hardware > Device Manager. Open IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers, right-click on Secondary IDE Channel and choose to uninstall. Reboot and see if it works. If you open the Secondary IDE Channel, Advanced Settings, Current transfer mode: you should see some version of DMA - not PIO. My CD/DVD drive is Ultra DMA Mode 2.

If you still have trouble, you can try uninstalling all IDE ATA/ATAPI devices and your CD/DVD drive, then reboot. Windows will automatically reinstall the drivers when you reboot.

Broken

I tried to uninstall as you recommended but still this didn't fix the problem.
It seems that the CD/DVD drive is physically broken. I will try to replace the CD/DVD drive with a new one.

Thanks.

one of my drives acted that way, specifically I would put any cd or dvd in and the drive would just continously run with the led blinking on and off, but the system wouldnt recognize the disk. I ended up having to trade it in to get a new drive under warranty which worked fine
