Help with X60 or X60s Models.
Help with X60 or X60s Models.
Hi my name is Nick, I am a new Member, Great site.
I just ordered my first Computer ( 2/24), a Thinkpad x60s.( 17044DU )
I was thinking at the time it would have Verizon wireless built-in, and it looks like now it may not have that feature, even though I read elsewhere that it was.
Anyone know for certain?
And/or does anyone know of a certain model ( within the x60 or x60s series)
-I would prefer it to be a X60s model-
that does have the Verizon wireless WWan embedded?
I would use the notebook outdoors a lot, and would rather not use a PCI Card.
Any help would be welcome!
Nick.

Only specific models have the Verizon Wireless WAN antenna installed on the right side of the LCD cover and W-WAN mini-PCI card on the motherboard. So you don't have to purchase a PCMCIA card if you ordered the right one. You'd better ask IBM/Lenovo about that by phone call or e-mail.

Hi Nick.
It seems that they do not list any models on their website right now with the Verizon option.
The Verizon CDMA add-on is an option, in much the same way that bluetooth & fingerprint readers are options - some have them; some do not.
Currently, I've only seen them selling one X60 model with Verizon, and that one was only listed on their website for a few days. It was model number 170997U. (You can find this in Google cache.)
Bottom line is that if you want an X60 with a built-in Verizon card, you're going to have to cancel your order and wait for them to list it again - I strongly recommend calling customer service for this.
Technically, it is possible to buy the parts to upgrade this in the future, but it will be an endevor and a half, as you will need to purchase new screen plastic with the antenna built in. Basically, I would strongly recommend against this.
FWIW, I ordered the 170997U and it's due to ship out in a couple of weeks. Fingers crossed.
I think floyd just received his X60s and he had this option also.
Good luck finding your laptop.

X60xs help
Hello again, everyone.
Thanks for the info.
I read somewhere that the Sales web site was difficult, now I know first hand!
I did cancel my order, when a salesperson stated that he was looking at a new internal memo that stated the would be an annoucement today (2/28)
or tomorrow (2/29) about new models and prices with the WWAN built-in.
Good thing I found your site.
Not certain why they stopped listing those models?
After Looking up your model, nick ( 170997U) in google cashe, it looks like the one I want. Hope they re-offer that one in the next couple of days.
Had a question though, about the T2400 chip. Do you or some else thinks it may run too hot and drain too much power for a ultrasize? as oppossed to the lower voltage L2400 chip? in other words is the slight extra power worth the highee heat and power drain? Last question please, If I order the ultrabase can I put in a Burner from a diiffirent company in its bay? (i.e. a light-scribe or faster read/write one, or do I need to use only the one from IBM? I know that a diff HHD can be used in the ultra bay with an adapter, but I confused about the optical drive options.
Again, thanks to everyone, I would be lost without this site!
