T41 sys board upgrade to 128 FireGL

#1 Post by porkfat » Fri Mar 03, 2006 3:26 am

The mobo on my T41 2379-xx5 recently died, so I've decided to upgrade from the 32MB ATI in there previously to a 128MB FireGL while I'm at it.

I was wondering, what's the diff between the FireGL T2 and the FireGL 9000? They are both 128MB. Do they differ by chipset or what? I found the 9000 with part# 39T5495 on several websites--all showing it as a R50/T4*p board--but it's not anywhere in IBM's parts list index...

The T40p FireGL 9000 is only 64MB memory. The t41p FireGL T2 is 128mb memory and is based on ATI 9600 chip.

Thanks Teresa. I found the info some time after posting but forgot to stop by and edit to mention it. Sorry.

I am however, still confused as to why the parts vendors had "128 ATI FireGL 9000" listed for that part number, and particularly why # 39T5495 is nowhere to be found on the IBM site.

I just installed a 39T5495 on my T41-2373-JU9. It works fine by the way. IBM didn't have it in their database. I spoke to them today and the IBM support person had to look it on Google. He said it was a R50 board. When I bought it, it was advertised as a T41 board. It was made in China and maybe IBM is completely out of the loop. Certainly it looks almost exactly like my old systemboard except for the graphics chip and a few extra minor support chips.
