T42 9-Cell battery life?

#1 Post by SpunkyXL » Fri Mar 03, 2006 11:32 am

I just got a new T42P laptop with the 9-cell battery. It's at 100%, but time remaining only has 2hrs 15min left. I thought the 9-cell battery was the best battery available for the t42p, which should have 2-4 hrs. Am I wrong?

Thanks..

You have to cycle the battery a few times, before it will show the correct time.

9 cell in my GF's T40 lasts her over 8 hours, and has since the cycle count was 0. id say theres something up with either the battery, or your power config.

Battery gauge is confused. Go to the final tab in Power Manager (should be "Battery Information"), see if there's a "battery conditioning" button. Its a gauge reset function, but also deep cycles the battery (runs it down to 0 and then charges up 100%). My T43 does it, my T41 doesn't, YMMV.

Also, what Power Manager PROFILE you're using will determine how much run time the software estimates you have left. Obviously, it will be longer at "Maximize battery life" over "Maximum Performance" or "timers off." ;)

Hope that helps...

If you are running in maximum performance power mode, that's probably about right.

By adusting the performance characteristics for battery power in the Power Manager utility, you can get considerably longer duration!

Cheers,

Bill
