Z60t turns itself off without warning
I've had my Z60t since Christmas and I mostly love it. A few things I haven't figured out yet, one is that 4 times now (about once a week) it just goes off. Even though I have the power connected and two batteries, it just goes bye-bye.
Any clues where to look?

This is weird, but I think I just found the problem.
You're not going to believe this, but it's seems to be my cell phone.
The last few times it happened, I was holding my cell phone in front of me, over the keyboard (in front on my screen). I thought that may be it, but previously dismissed it as being too far-fetched. But, twice today! Once I get everything back to the way it was and all backed-up, I'm going to try to reproduce...
Does this make sense to anyone?

Nope, just in the air above the keyboard, in front of the monitor.tfflivemb2 wrote:Is you cell phone connected via the USB port or anything?
Good idea, but no. Maybe it's the BlueTooth agent watching for signals... I'll try disabling all wireless agents that I'm not using.tfflivemb2 wrote:Is your cell phone blue tooth capable? I had several systems lock up on me when I accidentally tried to connect to a secure wireless connection

You could try downloading MobileMeter (Note: site is in japanese, but just click on the download link). Then you can keep an eye on the temp prior to it shutting down.o1sowise wrote:If it is heat, how to I test/measure that?

I had enough waiting and e-mailing. On Friday I called 800-ibm-serv and a technician came today. He could not believe what he saw. He called support and they could not believe it either.
They ordered me a new system board (backordered, maybe a week). They 'suspect' this 'may' correct both problems (this one and that one). We (the technician and myself) believe they did not send him over with a new system board because they didn't believe what I told them was real. Luckily for me, I was able to reproduce it everytime!

Turning blue in NJ waiting for a System Board that prob won't fix the problem anyway...o1sowise wrote:I had enough waiting and e-mailing. On Friday I called 800-ibm-serv and a technician came today. He could not believe what he saw. He called support and they could not believe it either.

The good news is that I get a call from IBM every week telling me I'm not forgotten and it's still on backorder.

Service guy came last night, tried removing the WAN card, still failed. Tried removing the LAN card, still failed. Tried removing the Bluetooth card, still failed. Took 3 hours to replace the System Board, still failed. Since it fails with the phone held over the processor, and since they've tried everythig else, they are now going to replace the processor (scheduled for tomorrow).

Goodness. Lenovo would have probably saved a ton of money by just replacing the entire computer for you.o1sowise wrote:Well, I'm running with a new CPU now and not only did it not fix my power-off problem, but it actually made it worse. Now it turns off, totally and randomly. It sometimes dies within 2 minutes of boot, but occasionally it stays alive for 33 whole minutes. Sometimes it says it's trying to enter stand-by, sometimes it gives error beeps as it's going down, but mostly it just dies a silent and drastic death.
I'm writing this from my sons room waiting for either the new harddrive to arrive in the morning OR someone from IBM/Lenovo support to call back, since I now have an escalated problem of the highest severity. It's been 6 hours and not a word, which makes me wonder what a regular problem response time would be...
Here's what I know so far:
- If I boot into the BIOS, it does not fail (stayed on for >40min before I rebooted it myself).
- If I boot into SAFE MODE, it does not fail (stayed on for >40min before I rebooted it myself).
Does anyone know of anything in any IBM/Lenovo software that would notice or care if the CPU were different/replaced?
OR
Does anyone know how I could get this z60T (only 8 months old now) replaced with a T43? I just bought a T43 for a friend, since I was having so many problems with my z60t, that I really don't want another z60 or even a z61 now...

Did that last night, after waiting all day without a call back on a Severity 1 problem. After almost 2 hours on the phone (@ 6pm) and many transfers, I finally got someone inside IBM. Today should see some action.daveman wrote:Call and ask to speak with a supervisor of some sort.
