much faster delivery than expected on T61

#1501 Post by bill333 » Fri Sep 07, 2007 10:00 am

I ordered a T61 with the 14 inch non-WS on 8/18...was given a ship date of 10/23, primarily because of the choice of the "Thinkpad" version of the N wireless card. However, a few days later I was pleasantly surprised to see that the product had shipped, and I received it less than a week later.

I chose ground shipping as well, yet also received "Express" shipping. I looked on the UPS website and it seems that international shipments are automatically expedited. Mine left HK on Wednesday and my driver was knocking on my door slightly before 10am this morning in Los Angeles. It may be a priority AM delivery.

BOTH came this morning overnighted express from HK. I refused the one I cancelled. We'll see when I get home..
CRSO wrote:I ordered a T61P configured with the Smart Card Reader by accident (order was from a quote with the 25% off and 20% off) on Sept. 1. The original estimated ship date was for Sept. 20th.

Once I realized that I am an idiot and don't need a Smart Card Reader, I looked through a few quotes I made and whoalah, I had the SAME configured system with the express card slot. I turned that quote into an order on Sept 3rd. and that estimated ship date was for Sept. 22nd.

I called a Lenovo rep to cancel and waited on hold for 2:06:45. Yes, TWO HOURS. After the first hour, it was fun because we just wanted to see how long it would take. I used the jawbone headset and it's great. Well, Naresh from east assland said that my order (the original one) was cancelled.

Sure enough, BOTH shipped out at the same time. They will probably be on the same truck and I will not be home. I have to rely on a note to refuse the original package because I do not want to accept it and have to ship it back. What a PITA.

Any reason the shipping is "express"? There isnt even an estimated arrival time...

Cancelling Order?

#1509 Post by kkwst2 » Sun Sep 16, 2007 2:42 am

Anyone gotten this?
Dear Customer

Due to the overwhelming demand for the Lenovo products you ordered, we have been unable to ship all or part of your order (xxxxxx). You are a valued customer and we are working to ship your order as soon as possible. However, If we do not hear from you within the next 5 days, Federal regulations require us to automatically cancel your order for which you will receive a full refund. If you would like to keep your order open, just send us an email by clicking the link below. If you agree to this delay notification, you may still request to modify or cancel your order at any time by contacting your representative SERGE OLEVSKY toll free at 1(866)428-4465.
I ordered this T61p 15.4" WUXGA on 7/18. Multiple calls, assured it will ship in a week which would have been the middle of August, then end of August, then a week ago, then by 9/19. Then I get this e-mail tonight. I've always said I would never get anything but a Thinkpad, but this is getting a little ridiculous. Anyone else get this e-mail? I really want the T61p, but I feel like I've already given them too many chances.

That's the letter I got August 28th when Lenovo rescheduled my estimated ship date from Augusdt 28th to September 28th. My order is also a WUXGA T61p, ordrered July 26th. Yes, a little sad. Now that I've been rescheduled once, I don't put much faith in the September 28th estimated ship date.

It makes me think, "If I can live without this machine for two months, maybe I don't need it and I should wait another six months for better technology."

I also got this email. I ordered 1 WUXGA t61p on July 12th I believe. I sent them more than 6 emails over the last month stating that I don't want the machine anymore because of the delay, but each time I was told the order will be cancelled in 24-48 hours. About 2 weeks ago, I recieved the above email, which I believe is an automatic email sent from their system. I did not reply to it and assumed my order will be cancelled in 5 days.

But today, I check my order and it is still there. I found it unbelievbly hard to cancel an order from Lenovo.

I really want to get the WUXGA T61p to replace my existing T61, but I don't want to get the machine in Oct and paying the higher July price.

well i cancelled a T61 WXGA on June. They did not charge me nor ship it out. I called twice to cancel. After 2 months, the order XXXXXX is finally unaccessible from lenovo.com so I assume it is cancelled.

I wouldn't count on it. I cancelled an order July 26th when I booked my current order. After three calls to customer service it was deleted from the order status website on August 2nd or 3rd. It got built and shipped August 10 and arrived on my doorstep August 13th. It never got charged to my card and Lenovo arranged for its pickup August 17th.

I'm still waiting to see if my July 26th order will really get built and shipped.

I ordered a T61p WUXGA with some accessories on 7/22, with est. shipped date 8/22, then the est. shipped date moved twice and the latest was 9/28. The accessories shipping date were originally 8/22 as well, then were pushed back daily. They were supposed to be used on my business project and the project has already started, so I decided to cancel the order.

I just sent an e-mail to the lenovo on Fri 9/14 morning and asked them to confirm me when the order is cancelled. They never confirmed me order cancellation officially. However, I also set mail delivery confirmation to yes and got the mail notification from that. On Saturday my order number became invalid and couldn't be found. I guessed it's cancelled.

So, the good thing is the cancellation isn't that hassled. All it took from me was one e-mail. However, I am a little angry+frustrated that they didn't confirm me or nor did they apologize for the delay and effects they caused for my business. :?

Oh by the way, I had been thinking over many times about keeping this order because, it was a good machine at good price, just in case I can use it for my other projects. Anyway, after 7 weeks of waiting, my excitement had gone. Also, the machine price + Intel processor price keep droping, after I could wait for almost two months, I could wait for a more few months to get a newer/better price system for my future projects.

cs120ban, just asking out of my curiousity, since you ordered your system about the same period as mine, does your system you received contain a wireless USB? How was the screen quality in your batch? It seemed to me that some got great screens, some got bad screens.

By the way, I am still OK with Lenovo... just a bit disappointed from their product and service mind that had dropped from IBM days. I'm well aware that each brand has its own problems. I had Sony, Dell, HP, Compaq, Acer, Asus, IBM thinkpad and Lenovo's thinkpad.. you named it. "IBM" Thinkpad was the best, from pre-sales, shipping, customer services, support, repair services, even shipping.

I think I might give Lenovo another chance next time, but for this shipping, it's too late.

It looks like I'm going to have a fun weekend.

Finally Shipped

#1520 Post by Demons » Mon Sep 17, 2007 10:17 am

My WUXGA T61p also got shipped today after many weeks of waiting.

Originally Ordered:

7/19/07 (with WUXGA and UWB)

Original Est. Ship:

8/21/07

Delayed Est. Ship:

9/21/07

Actual Ship:

9/17/07

I had just barely gotten the email yesterday about the "Federal Regulation" that they have to cancel the order unless I agree to the delay. I felt like I was agreeing to wait another month for my Thinkpad. I accepted it anyway and I'm glad I did. Hopefully I'll have it by weeks end!

Nat: I dunno about the LCD i'm getting for the T61p but the T61 WXGA+ is a Samsung (checked through warranty) and a chicony keyboard (NMB). Will get a NMB thai and NMB traditional chinese.

It is odd. My T61p is not showing up in the warranty database and my T61 has wrong warranty information (I upgraded both to 3 year depot)

Thanks for the info. 8)

For warranty, normally it takes some time before your machine shows up in the database. One of the reasons is they start to clock the warranty after your machine ships. When it is available, please check again if the warranty info is correct, if not you should call Lenovo right away.

Hmm.. I started to be a bit worried about my canceled order. Had I not been canceled, I guess it would have shipped this week. I'm out of the country now and last time I ordered an X61 tablet last month, it was left outside my address, unattended, and UPS guy just faked my signature as a part of my last name on it as the signer.

Incredible good news with some bad news.

My WUXGA T61p shipped from Hong Kong 09/17/07 at 8 am my time. It is now out for delivery and will be in my hands within a couple of hours (approximately 2 pm 09/19/07). Amazing to track what UPS has done, even down to one of the flights being delayed by 30 minutes. Every detail except for the seat assignment for my boxes is on line. Sheridan, Wyoming is definitely off the beaten path. This is GREAT delivery speed.

Hong Kong => Anchorage, AK => Colorado => Billings, MT => out for delivery to Sheridan, WY

Meanwhile, back at the ranch, I called IBM Easyserv Monday, 3 pm, about an R51 that needs some hinges repaired. They promised a box from DHL (Day and a Half Late) for yesterday. I said, "I doubt it." Didn't show yesterday. Might show today. Before DHL bought Airborne Express, it was much faster. Most of my service complains with depot repair have to do with DHL. The crew here in Sheridan is great. They will even wait after delivering the box for me to put the laptop inside and pick up the box on the same delivery stop. Once it leaves Sheridan it gets slowed down or mis-shipped by the DHL network.

Oh well. I can't wait to start working with the new box. I've got tomorrow set aside for it.
