Have you ordered a T6x(p)?Shipping Posts.
My T60, which had been scheduled to ship today, inexplicably had its ship date kicked back a week. I called and changed my order to a T60P (8744-J2U), which actually had a slightly better configuration for me and appeared to be more readily available. The price difference was only $100 or so, plus Vista was preinstalled on this model, so it made sense to do it. Hopefully I haven't doomed myself to more weeks of waiting by doing this, but the rep seemed to think that the impact would be minimal. Plus two-day shipping was a lot less than I expected, so that should make up any difference in configuration.
I ordered a 8744-J2U on 2/25 the order confirmation indicated it was going to ship on 3/13 instead it shipped on the 7th and they sent it Express and I got it on the 9th. I only paid for standard shipping so I was pleased all around.

Well, here's the story of my minor saga:
3/4: Order a T60 (8544-5BU) to replace my T42. The ship date given at that point is 3/15. I get a good price, and I'm happy. I check the order status page religiously.
3/13 or so: I happen to come across a pretty great sale for a T60p model (8744-J2U). I curse briefly, but come to terms with it because the total cost is slightly more than the budget I set for myself.
3/14: I check the order status for my original order. Pushed back to 3/21. D'oh. I start thinking back to that T60p I happened to see (in stock no less!) and start justifying how the extra $80 or so can easily be recouped.
I call IBM, place the order for the T60p, and cancel the order for the T60. The rep warns me that the T60 might well be shipping out on the original estimated date of shipping (3/15) and that at that point it might be too late to cancel the order, but if so, we'll cross that bridge when we come to it. Ship date for the T60p is 3/19.
3/15: Naturally the T60 was not cancelled and ships out today. I have one Thinkpad on its way to me.
3/16: The T60p ships out as well. I now have two Thinkpads on their way to me. Now it's a race!
I'll update you on 3/19 or 3/20 as to who wins.
There's not much point to this post except my recommendation for preconfigured systems. Much, much faster to ship -- I'm just glad I found one with my desired specs while I could still (try to) cancel my original order in good conscience.

Does anyone know how long customs typically takes to let Thinkpads through? UPS used to say that the estimated arrival date was tomorrow, but now it doesn't even mention an arrival date.
Thanks,
Matt

it will be like that and then suddenly the doorbell will ring and there it will be..
there is no way to know for sure..
if it was shipped with a number of other machines the tracking number could change and you will not know it..

Also, how's the quality of the recently received 14.1" TFT SXGA+ screens, i.e. 1400x1050 pixels, in terms of brightness, contrast, and dead pixels?
I got mine almost two weeks ago. This is my first T60/laptop.
The quality is good. Solid. Except for some places where minor flexing is present, such as the place near Esc key and left hand rest. Not a big problem for me.
The only thing I don't like about this machine is the screen. I got TDM screen. Bad viewing angle and too much of blue color. I've heard Samsung screen is good. However TDM is sharp and bright. No dead pixels.

Here is my sad tale, hopefully soon to be happy. I ordered a T60 8743CT on 3/16. I promptly received a confirmation email which indicated the estimated ship date would be 4/4. I was disappointed, but after reading these posts and calling Sales, I was very confident the date would move up.
I was very pleasantly surprised to get my status updated to reflect my T60 was shipped on 3/21. As some of you also do, I began to check the UPS tracking number every day. Since 3/22, the status has been unchanged:
INCHEON,

Tracking results provided by UPS: 03/25/2007 5:00 P.M. EST (USA)
Is my poor T60 sitting on the tarmac in Incheon? Will it ever safely get to South Carolina?

Ordered a t60p on 3/27 est ship on 4/13: 2ghz, 2GB, 100GB 72k, 15.4 wsxga+, etc.
Although this is a 8743cto which from lurking around seems to have a tendency to delay the shipping. Keeping my fingers crossed.
The fun part is that the mini-dock already shipped so I'll have that sitting there for ~15 days as a teaser for what's to come.

Ok so people who ordered same config as me on the day but before or after me started to receive their systems, so I call to see why my order is still "Processing" and no changes.
On hold for about 30 minutes and then I give my reason and my order number, rep says I just called in 10 mins ago and cancel my order. WTF?? I tell her I've been on hold for last 30 mins, so she checks my order number and instead of 0 she typed in o. LOL
then she tells me my Thinkpad is ready for shipping and it could be shipped out today and if not it will be shipped out by Wednesday.
what am I supposed to do till then?? HURRY UP
what have you guys done to it OS wise?
VISTA? XP Pro? Linux (which distro)?
I can get vista and xp for free from school so I picked XP home
I dont know if I wanna go linux, XP or Vista yet.

Everything works well, didn't have a problem with installing either operating system. In Fedora Core 6 x86_64 (which I use most of the time) you have to download the Intel Pro wireless (IPW) daemon and driver for linux before it will work. Also, if you use a lot of pages that use flash, Adobe doesn't have a x86_64 version of flash, so you have to do without (this isn't an issue if you use the 32bit version of Core 6).
I have used Vista on another test machine. It is okay, but there are enough compatibility issues and other random annoyances that keeps me from installing it over my windows XP partition.
Looks like we ordered just about the same thing.. I have good news though - mine shipped today!!dexta wrote:T60p 15.4" Widescreen, Intel Core2Duo T7200, 2 x 1GB PC2-5300, 100GB 7200rpm HDD

- Ordered 3/27 in the afternoon.
- Their system didn't let me enter my real zip so billing was fubared.
- Confirmed billing first thing on 3/28 and order was released.
So I'm counting about 7 business days.. Hopefully yours will ship on the 10th if it follows the same time line.

My 2nd order has become ridiculous.
T60P, T7200, 1GB RAM, 80GB.
Order Date: 3/19
Original Ship Date: 4/5
New Ship Date: 4/24 !!!
They just silently changed the ship date. Now I need to wait over ONE MONTH, that's really ridiculous. T60P might be good, but probably not that good for waiting over one month.
Lenovo got to have a very good explanation, otherwise canceling the order is the 1st thing I want to do tomorrow.
