Who has original IBM THINKPAD themes ?

#1 Post by rleo25 » Fri Mar 03, 2006 7:21 pm

Recently I saw on a friend's Thinkpad desktop an IBM wallpaper with a nice blue pattern design that displayed system information such as energy and battery status, mail, disk space and a two months calendar with the actual date on it!

It was so nice that I felt envy and the urgent need to get it ... (greed!), so does anybody have the files to install the whole theme package, or the adress to download? And please tell me if some config is needed to fully display the sys info?

Thanks as always for your cooperation....

There is a post in one of the forums to the site for those themes, i use them on both my laptops, the active thinkpad is the one you want.

Do a search and you should be able to find it. :)

Neither did I, there are some old IBM links (y 2004) that are being rerrouted to Lenovo's servers that don't have the pages in question, "Our apologies... the page you requested cannot be displayed" is the only answer... so the search for the ACTIVE THINKPAD continues... maybe somebody could post the carpets and files to our mail adress?

Gomjabber: The link within your link for the Active Themes appears to be dead. I was looking for this recently too, and actually bookmarked the Russian site, in case it came back up.

Yeah, I couldn't access the Russian site either, but the IBM ftp site seems to work.

Done.... thanks guys, don't know what a pleasure is having the thing installed, no matter some indicators seem not to function as well... you can install the desktop Think active wich has less data on it but a nice updated calendar, or the active wallpaper with the actual timezone's hour... take a look to other brand computers, we are ahead of them in design quality aren't we?

Both links work for me:

http://www.mocom.ru/Wallpapers/ibm.htm
ftp://ftp.pc.ibm.com/pub/pccwww/ww/thinkpad/wallpaper/

Check your browser or proxy settings, maybe....?

I've found that I could take some of the text off one of my favorites - looks nicer - and it often gets "oohs and ahs" when I switch to presentation mode on a projector. The level of detail in it is perfectly suited to fine-focusing a projector.

http://www.mocom.ru/Wallpapers/Pictures ... _1050.html

Actually, now that I look at it again, it's good both for focusing and setting color corrections.

The keyboard looks cool! and what a definition level! yeah it is a good idea to use it as a pattern to focus the projector. I wonder the guy that took the picture should have a camera with a very high quality macro lens...

Couldn't fix the settings to make the data appear on the display, however I am happy with the calendar and disk storage info, some times swapping with the world clock map... my lappy looks all black with a dark grey shade and the colorful icons it looks nice, really nice, I've calibrated my screen to get the highest contrast and clearest white I could, fixing the only handicap I found in this T42 machine... it looks now better than a T43, coolest and quieter...

BTW, you're looking for the Active Think themes. There was one for Thinkpad with wifi/Ethernet indicators, and a battery indicator ... and a ThinkCentre one with a calendar. My T43 came with the latter, oddly enough. And I've never gotten the e-mail indicator to work. :?

dorin, you are not alone :( , there have been many post's about the mail indicator not working, mine never did. I did find something a while back on the microsoft web site tech notes about it also, can't remember exactly what it said.

My email indicator only works when I have my yahoo messenger open and then it only acknowledges my yahoo email. None of my IP email or hotmail....only yahoo and that is pretty much after the screen saver kicks in.

I think it looks for what you have set as your default email client, then tries to bring that up; a simple concept that I think they implemented when they made it. In my case, it would always bring up Thunderbird no matter what I did. So Thunderbird would always pop up every now and then and I had to either minimize it or try and quit (at which point it got told to start again).

Doesn't work with Outlook. And I think someone claims it doesn't work with Outlook Express (OE).

Now, I haven't tried with Netscape, Thunderbird, Eudora, Pegasus, etc., etc. I wonder, Chris, is T-bird listed as your default mail client in the Internet Explorer options Program tab?

Yup, it is the default mail client as far as both Firefox and IE are concerned; it is system-wide.
