T42 CD-RW does not read a CD-RW disk

#1 Post by govikes » Sat Mar 04, 2006 11:27 am

My T42 doesn't read a new CD-RW disk. I was able to burn pictures before but now it cannot burn anything with the CD-RW. Its a Matshita UJDA765 DVD/CDRW device. The driver version is Microsoft 5.1.2535.0.
Any body have any ideas why?

Check this. Open My Computer, then right-click on the D: drive (CD/RW drive) and choose Properties. Now choose the DLA tab and make sure that the "Enable DLA on your drives" box is ticked. On the Recording tab you may need to tick the box "Enable CD recording on this drive".

Sounds like you don't have it installed, or else the install was damaged. You can look in Add or Remove Programs in Control Panel for Sonic DLA. If it is not there, then it is not installed. If it is there, then I would suggest uninstalling it, then reinstalling it from C:\IBMTOOLS\APPS\DLA\SETUP.EXE. There is also a DLA update from IBM/Lenovo, but I believe you need to have the original program installed first.

If you have installed Roxio Easy CD Creator, Nero INCD, or other CD burning software, they may have interfered with DLA.

I did not see Sonic DLA in the remove/add hardware programs. So I tried to install the DLA from C:IBMTOOLS/.... but I don't see the IBMTOOLS folder in the C: drive either? Is there somewhere else I can get from?

If you don't have the C:\IBMTOOLS directory, then you do not have the original factory install. You cannot download the full DLA program from any site that I am aware of. DLA is not that great anyway. I recommend you buy a copy of Nero CD/DVD burning software instead. It is much more powerful. And you can make bootable CD's that actually boot. Something that doesn't always seem to work with other software I have used.

Thanks for your help. What about using Win Media player as a burning software? I know there is an option to burn and when I click on it I get back a "No CD or DVD burner has been detected" Is there something I can do to fix that?
