Help: Replacing Wireless Mini-PCI in T41 ?

#1 Post by arion » Tue Mar 07, 2006 8:20 am

I am thinking of replacing the Cisco 802.11b Mini-PCI card in my T41 (2373-7JM) with an Intel 2200BG 802.11b/g Mini-PCI.

Looking at the support site I have to remove the keyboard ete. Are the screws nylon coated ? Can I just remove the keyboard etc and just put it back together with the same screws etc ?

Thanks.

You can use the same screws.

Just make sure you get the IBM branded Intel 2200BG. The BIOS of the T4x series will not recognize generic 2200BG cards without a hack.

Yes, but pay close attention to the screws as you remove them. Despite the numbering there are some variations between the screws and you do need to make sure that you put a couple of "slightly different" screws back into exactly the same place they came from.

For instance, one of the screws has only a partially threaded section on the shank and must go back into the same hole it came out of, while the rest of the screws of that "number" have fully threaded shanks and can be freely interchanged.

Cheers,

Bill
