Novice memory question ....
I want to upgrade the memory in my 660E (55U). Can virtually any PC100 128MB SODIMM be used as long as its non-buffered and non-ECC ?
Thanks - Bill

I love the Trackpoint - especially with tactile feedback.

I agree, the 600E is less picky about 128MB sticks than 256MB ones. If you want to use 256MB modules, you need to make sure it has a total of 16 chips, which makes it low density.
Microsoft Surface 3 (Atom x7-Z8700 / 4GB / 128GB / LTE)

Wow, I just noticed that two wizards have responded to this thread!

Yes, 600E is what I meant. I noticed that some manufacturers of memory modules specifically offer a "01K1150" memory which tends to be more expensive than the general purpose 128MB modules they offer. So I was wondering if there was anything special about the memory used in the Thinkpads or was it "industry-standard" 144-pin SODIMMS. Thanks.
BTW- does anyone know if IBM ever put the "tactile feedback" Trackpoint stick in production?

Most 600Es accept up to 544mb ram (256mb X2, plus 32mb onboard). The exception might be the 55x and A5x series. They even have a different BIOS than the remaining 600E models.
The 55U that I have seems to be limited to the 288mb limit. When I place a 256mb low density stick in by itself, it will still only registers half the stick. For the record, I have even tested the ram chip in a different system and it registered 100%.
