A long time thinkpad user who just dropped in a week and a half ago to pick up a T42 (the fameous 3VU) has called to day from what he calls the "!@#$%^%&^$#! District of Columbia" to say, in reference to the OS - Preload, the following:

Do all the updates.. i just did about 180meg of updates and not this thing works flawlessly and much faster..

the automated ibm update tool worked without a hitch..

forget the M$ updates as those seem to screw things up more often that not..

ive done full format and reinstall using my own copy of XP, the latest drivers from IBM, the Omega Display drivers and only a select few IBM apps. Also ran windows update as well and i couldnt be happier with how this thing is performing now
