pci express speed of advanced dock?

#1 Post by korny » Tue Mar 07, 2006 9:59 pm

Hi - does anyone know what speed the PCI Express slot in the advanced dock is? i.e. is it full x16 speed, or something slower?

I was thinking of getting a thinkpad with low-end graphics, and getting a high-end graphics card in a dock for gaming when I'm at home - but I wondered if the speed of the dock would support a decent graphics card?

What are others experiences with graphics cards in the dock?

- Korny

It is a 16x slot, but latency will be a tad higher than normal since its traces are quite a bit farther from the cpu compared to a desktop board design.

Thye highest non workstation graphics card that i found for this was an x700/6600. Decent for gaming, but might as well get a desktop if that the only reason your getting that dock.
