ThinkPad-plastic-proven glue...

#1 Post by Zed » Wed Mar 08, 2006 8:30 am

Hi, I was wondering, has anybody managed to chip the casing of his ThinkPad just by closing the screen? I am asking because I managed to do it  .

This morning when I closed the screen I heard a cracking noise… I opened it, looked around what make the noise and there it was! I little crack on the left edge of the casing where there’s the little hollow for the little – but pretty sharp - projection on the edge of the screen’s frame. How annoying! Just when I started to – rather subconsciously - speculate on the possibility of selling it “as new” and getting T60…

As I presume I’d get a big laugh phoning the service and asking them to do something about (or?), I rather get hold of some ThinkPad-plastic-proven glue. Any suggestions?

Seem like good finds – both the thread and the Poly weld you bought. I’ll definitely appreciate feedback. Thanks beforehand.

poly weld no good

the poly weld does not work on thinkpad plastic. the part is marked ABS-PC i think that means ABS with polycarbonate. any way does not work - neither does super glue for more than say 1 week tops.

instead i purchased the part direct from ibm uk online - prices are half of other suppliers. bezel cost around £10 but courier delivery cost £17!

you may want to check out other threads - it is not uncommon for thinkpads to crack for no reason.
