T42 2373-8zu hard drive upgrade problem?

#1 Post by mav » Wed Mar 08, 2006 11:27 am

I was wondering if anyone could guide me thru, just purchased a Hitachi travelstar hdd upgrade kit and cloned my current 40 GB hdd to the 60hdd, installed the new hdd into the thinkpad and the bios password request comes up, accepts the password and instead of going into the Thinkvantage password screen I just get a blinking command prompt in the upper left corner, waited five minutes and no change. Am I not waiting long enough for the new hdd to kick in or am I doing something wrong. Thanks!

How did you clone your drive? and after you cloned it, did you set the primary partition to active? Looks like the thinkpad does not see a bootable drive.

I upgraded an A20P a couple of years ago by cloning and basically installed the new cloned HDD in without a hitch. So I am perplexed why it doesnt work in the newer T42. So you say I may have to make the primary partition active, I guess this is part of the Rescue and Recovery features. Can you tell me how to do this since I am not sure what to do. Any help is much appreciated.
