My T60 shipped!

#1 Post by johhn14 » Wed Mar 08, 2006 2:26 pm

I ordered the 200764U on Feb 15 and it shipped today! My estimated ship date was not for another 2 weeks, 3/23.

I didn't expect it to be this quick, it's actually a little too quick since I won't be around to take the shipment for a couple weeks (I'm going to be out of town). I'll make sure someone is though.

Yes, there is - Before turning it on, you should take it completely apart, piece by piece, and post links to high-res photos of each component.

Seriously though, it would be nice to get some first impressions on quality, unexpected featres or details that haven't already been discussed here, etc.

That is a good start. Basically try to cover it from all angles, run a few benchmarks, and use a decent camera with full lighting.

Not Shipped

#6 Post by sppxl0 » Thu Mar 09, 2006 6:54 pm

My T60 ship date was 3/9. I ordered on 2/5. This morning it changed to 3/29. I called Lenovo and was told that it might be 3/16 but maybe not. No one really knows for sure. I'm new to ThinkPad and decided to order a T60. I needed a Windows machine for work related projects. I own an Apple Powerbook. I'm angry. Usually when I spend this kind of money I expect to get treated a little better. IBM people that I work with say this is typical and was that way then IBM was in charge. I almost cancelled my order.

This is a bad news to me. I placed the order on Jan 31. The ETA is March 13th. Hope it won't be changed.

My laptop is out for delivery today!

I never would have thought it would leave Hong Kong on Wednesday and be delivered on Friday.

You lucky dog. I did get my backpack with the nifty little LED light on the pull string. Very cool.

When the delivery system usually works it is impressive. When it fails, it's equally impressive. Some people have had their machines mysteriously "held in customs" for weeks.

Lenovo as IBM ships UPS 2nd day air. My past 3 Thinkpads were all shipped this way from China.
Come on guys we need some reviews or at least first thoughts on your new T60's! I'm especially curious on the fan noise, I know it's gonna be fast. Also how is the look in person compared to the past T series? Congrats on getting your new Thinkpads.

I'm moving from a Dell Latitude D600 and I am much more impressed with the Thinkpad than I ever was with the Dell.

The keyboard is great, screen is awesome (14 inch sxga)
The wireless has been a little finicky so far, but seems to be mostly under control

Fan noise is there, not too loud, but if you're listening for it, you will hear it. The air blowing out of the vent is warm, but by no means hot.

I'm impressed with the dual layer dvd burner - I was unaware that it was dual layer capable so that's a pleasant suprise.

The speakers are pretty [censored] good for a laptop I'd say. They won't compare to a regular set, but I'll take it for a notebook.

I haven't gone on battery power too much yet so I can't report on that.]

Anything else people want to know?

This is my first Thinkpad, have used HP and Toshiba in the past.

So far, I am very impressed. The fan is quiet and not a distraction. Construction is very sturdy; keyboard and screen display both excellent.

Right now, I am working on the wireless connections. I just signed up with Verizon, but won't have access for 1-2 business days.

For the love johhn14 tell us more of anything. What does it feel like. My god I can't wait this long. It's worse than Christmas eve waiting at 8yrs old.

I'm stuck here playing with my empty IBM backpack and extra batteries.

It shipped today. The original date was 3/9 then it changed to 3/29 then I called and was told 3/16. But I checked the status today and it shipped. I even called and they said it shipped. Hope to have a tracking number tomorrow morning. I can't remember being this cranked over a laptop.

Some additional thoughts:

Wifi connected and is working smoothly. I have installed software both from the cd-rom and online---installation flies! My signal strength is better than my desktop.

Contrary to my previous post, Verizon WWAN has now been activated. I don't live in a good location for speed tests, but connectivity has been stable.

The photos in one of the reviews is deceiving. The Thinkpad is black (not charcoal) and looks very classy. Yes, it would be nice to have red stripes and some curved edges, but this baby performs!

The keyboard has me hooked. Viewing angles are the best I have seen on a notebook monitor.

My first time through with the 6-cell battery, I got 3 hrs 10 minutes, with 11% left. I also have a 9-cell to try out.

Very sturdily built, especially the hinges.

I am a business user, not a gamer, as well as a first time Thinkpad user. It will be interesting to read reviews from long-time and high power users. However, as for me, I am ecstatic with my purchase.

The mobility, duo core, keyboard and screen makes the T60 a home run.

Exciting thread...

I ordered a 200776U three weeks ago, and got a ship date of 4/5. This morning, the status shows that it shipped from HK today. Wow.

Thanks for the early reviews!

OK...so I've been getting used to the IBM software and whatnot (which has taken me a while coming from Dell), and I'm still having one problem.

Not a big deal, but an annoyance. I got the Verizon card built in with no immediate plans to use it. If I try to turn it off using Access Connections, it will come back on the next time I boot up. If I disable it in the device manager, it will remain off, but the status light just below the monitor will remain on.

Anybody have a suggestion to remedy that?

Is there no BIOS setting to turn that MiniPCIe card/slot off :?:

Hey johhn14 did you get a call from a Verizon rep to activate service? Just wondering how they would be handling this. Anything on pricing would be great too.

That's a great point. I, too, would like to know what they are charging (for non-voice customers). If it's anything more than $59/mo I'm sticking with my Sprint EV-DO card...

Verizon charges $59.99 per month for existing mobile customers that sign up for a two-year agreement for WWAN.

WWAN only is $79.99 per month.

You can cancel within the first two weeks of the agreement.

For me, a built-in WWAN with Verizon service was one of the primary factors for choosing a notebook.
