Removing Bluetooth Device

#1 Post by jsteele » Wed Mar 08, 2006 4:43 pm

Does anyone know how to remove a Bluetooth device from the system? I don't find any references to it in the Registry.

I have a Bluetooth connected GPS receiver that is giving me problems. Buetooth finds the device but will not find any services, specifially it does not find the SPP service to communicate with. I had hoped to "remove" the device from the system and give it a chance to find it anew --- thinking it might jumpstart the process. But I can't find a way to "remove" it, either in the Bluetooth Manager or by removing it from the Registry.

Are Bluetooth devices maintined in the Registry or is there some other "magic place" where they are stored?

You should be able to uninstall it from Device Manager. When you find it in Device Manager, click on the + sign to open the folder, then right-click on the bluetooth device and choose to uninstall, then reboot.

Start > Control Panel > System > Hardware > Device Manager. I am not sure how it is named in Device Manager since I do not have a bluetooth device installed.

Actually it doesn't show up in the Device Manager. The only "Bluetooth" item that shows up is the IBM Bluetooth Software.

If you don't have any yellow exclaimation marks, or unknown devices in device manager, then I would check your BIOS to make sure that the Internal Wireless Device is Enabled. Next I would run PC-Doctor for Windows, or boot up PC-Doctor for DOS, and see if a bluetooth device is listed. It is possible that your bluetooth device failed, and that is why it is not showing up. As I stated earlier, I do not have bluetooth in any of my computers, so I am working a little in the dark here.

It's not that it failed installation, Bluetooth found the device just fine; it just won't find any services on the device. None of my Bluetooth devices (headphone, headset, GPS) show up in the Device Manager so I take it that this is the normal situation.

I thought the Bluetooth devices might at least be in the Registry but they are not, at least not by any recognizable device name; it may be encoded or as a hex string or something but not as a plain language name.

I think I misunderstood what you were initially saying. Probably what you are looking for is in a driver file or text file somewhere. I read a few posts about different drivers for bluetooth (Widcom et al), but I don't know enough about it to give any more advice. You can search this site with the search link at the top of the page, using the words "bluetooth widcom driver" (without quotes) and tic the radio button that says:"Search for all terms". You should be able to find some good information.

Try looking for the bluetooth logo in your systray, and right click on the logo. There shd be a "Explore my bluetooth places". At the side of the newly opened window, click on "View devices n range". You shd then be able to see the devices that you've paired with. Right click on your GPS device, then select "Unpair device".

Btw, I'm not sure if the current drivers have this SPP service. Haven't tried with any GPS device before. I'm still trying to get mine to support A2DP profile :?

In addition to Doltan's tip,... If you specified any specific BlueTooth Device in teh BlueTooth Configuration, remove it from the "accessibility" and "discovery" tabs. Sorry I can't be more specific, I'm not on my BT equipped TP.
