Do you have a battery in the ultrabay 2000? I think this extra battery makes a hot machine even hotter, especially when being charged.

Is it hotter when the charger is plugged in?

After frying my motherborad, apparently a common A31 problem, I think I'm going to take the extra battery out and leave the bay open to let in cool air.

Read the thread "A31 Laptop screen issue!". It discussses a technique of putting a fan in a A31.

W2K, huh? You might try running OS/10. This fanatic I know told me that OS/10 is really cool!

the problem is that my A31 is getting hot even when the battery is fully charged, yes I leave the battery in all the time and the power pluge in all the time when in use at home, but this was not a problem before, I now notice that when the machine is very hot it is not blowing hot air from the opening to the left/back behind the cd-ram drive like it used to. so I asume the fan is fulty. the post you gave mentions something about adding extra fans but not replacing the current one.

You can replace your fan by using your Hardware Maintenance Manual.

It will contain the part numbers, as well as directions on how to remove the fan.

Download software from the web and test your fan. If not buy 1 laptop cooler fan and let it do the job. But R52. Good and ROBUST. I swear that R52 is my priceless gem coz it is so good and always working fine even though i always banged it with my fist on the palm rest when i was playing games. I did the same to my Z60t and hardisk stopped and indicate that there is strong vibration. Now my Z60t harddisk need to be replaced.
