HPA vs. Rescue and Recovery

#1 Post by SCRAPS » Thu Mar 09, 2006 9:50 am

Do you have both HPA and Rescue and Recovery on a T-40? Or is R & R an update of the HPA? Where and how do you make the product recovery disks or recue media?

Hello,

I never tried to create the CDs so I don't have an answer to your original question. But, about 10 1/2 months ago, I tried to run Rapid Restore on my T41 and the app wouldn't run. I called IBM and told them this, and they actually told me that sometimes the app never gets installed correctly... so... they sent me the recovery CDs for free. You might try calling IBM to see what they say. :)

If you haven't upgraded R & R, you have the HPA. To create the Recovery Discs, go to Start > All Programs > Access IBM > Create Recovery Discs. The Recovery Discs are about 6 CD's - be sure you have enough when you start. You can only create these one time. There is also also an option to Create Rescue Media. The Rescue Media is one CD to boot up into Rescue and Recovery, when you can't boot up off the hard drive.

The new R & R replaces the HPA with WinPE. With the new R & R you go to Start > All Programs > ThinkVantage > Create Recovery Media.

Note, I have a T42. The information above is what I have read. I have not actually owned a T40 to speak from personal experience.
