my warranty will expire tomorrow , should i extend ? T43
tomorrow i'm going to have my T43 for a year now.
i have only 1 yr warranty.
when i called ibm and asked them how much it will cost to get 2 more years.
they told me it's 100 and something for a year.
i remember when i got it , it was 100 and something for two more years. and then they told me i can do that option anytime later as long it's under warranty . so i decided to wait with that .
did they change the prices lately ?
the funny part , they told me for 160 i can buy warranty ANYTIME.
so i guess if something will go wrong with my laptop i could just buy warranty then . the only down side for that , you can get service only 10 days after you buy the warranty .
thanks Danny

I'm a big fan of the warranty. My A31 died after about 3 years. 2 failed repair attempts. IBM/Lenovo replaced it with a T43.
If I didn't have the warranty.... yea, that would have stunk. With warranty? I have a new working laptop.
IMHO if you value your laptop as something >= $100 year... no question.

T43 (2687-DUU) - 1.86GHz, 1.5GB RAM, 100GB 5400 (non IBM-firmware Hitachi 5k100) HD, Fingerprint Scanner, 802.11abg/Bluetooth, ATI x300
I would highly suggest you get the extended warranty. I have heard numerous stories of people getting new thinkpads near the end of their 3 year warranty when something goes wrong. The peace on mind is worth it alone. The other poster said it well in pointing out that for about $100 a year you know you will get your computer fixed should something happen to it.
I had to send in my Thinkpad (which ended up being a lemon and getting replaced) a few weeks back and it only took them 5 business days go get it back to me from door to door. I say get the warranty and enjoy your T43 for many years to come

problem solved
I just called IBM , and asked them what are my options for extending it.
the guy asked me for the type and serial number , and then told me my machine got warranty till 2008-03-26.
beyond me how and why
i didn't purchase the 3 year warranty model.
it's a 71U - 1 year.
I guess nice things like that can happen only with IBM

Go to the support website and click on "Warranty Status" in the "My System" box.
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... eLenovo.do
Whatever shows up is exactly the same thing that the folks at IBM see when they manually enter your info and is what they'll use to determine if you're under warranty or not. It's the same database.
BTW, the TABOOK says that the 2668-71U came with a three year warranty, not one year.

James
