Wireless Card

Hi

I'm about to purchase a T40 (2373223) but it doesn't come with an integrated wireless card. I'm not sure which is the best one for this model. The sales rep suggested the Cisco one which is pretty expensive...she didn't even suggest any other ones. Is she just trying to get the highest commission for herself...or is this the only wireless card that will work with the T40.

If the notebook is wireless upgradeable (MPCI) will the intel 2200BG or ibm a/b/g cards work? If so, which one is better? They are a lot cheaper, but are they compatable with the T40?

i believe the 2200bg or teh ibm a/b/g card should both work fine. if you need a, then get the the ibm, otherwise, ive had no problems with the 2200BG. they can be had on ebay for $40. however, im not sure if these will qualify for ibm's "white list". hopefully someone else will know

You must buy an IBM wireless card if you want an internal card (only way to go). Other cards are locked out by the IBM BIOS. I'd personally get the $99 a/b/g card - you will need to update the BIOS and controller first. Getting the card in requires some significant disassembly if you are a novice.
