Older version of config util for win95? (Standard IE ...)

#1 Post by telegpaghMelts » Thu Jul 22, 2004 10:29 pm

i don't think i can stomach--tho will, if needed--to download ie4 on this connection. So, wondered if there were older versions of the fuel-gauge program etc. hiding somewhere that'll work on a standard 95 install.

Just curious.

Oh, 760el.

Thanks....

Yeah, that's the one i'm "using" right now. (Doesn't work.)

"On Windows 95, Internet Explorer version 4 or later needs to be installed." That's my problem--there's only IE3 with 95. i'm trying to fond some way around the 70meg IE4 download, but i could just leave the computer running when i go to bed ... tho i don't wanna, for some lazy reason.

Thanks.

OK, I see. Well, depends on what modem you have. I don't even know a site where you can download IE4, since big MS doesn't support it anymore. But if you got one, with a 56k modem you can download it in a night. Your TP will survive, don't worry. Or you can download it to another PC and transfer the file via an ethernet cable, or infrared, copy to a CD (if you have a CD drive for your 760EL) etc.

Do I understand that you need a copy of IE 4.0? I have ver 4 on a CD with MSworks 3.0 if you need it. By the way, IE v 4.4 came with my copy of Window 95 but v 3.1 came on my Office 97 CD, Go figure.

Getting a copy in general isn't the problem (http://browsers.evolt.org/), just downloading the thing. Actually, i downloaded it once on a cable connection and burnt it to cd, but the installer was corrupt or something (for some reason) and only extracted 3 small cab files....

i'm just gonna break down, grab it some night, and hope it runs. The "browser only" version didn't work, sadly.... 8 megs is better than 70.

Really, i just want the battery utils 'cos i know nothing about dis-charging or re-charging or anything, and i'm afraid i'm gonna kill the thing before i get to actaully use it. (Hard to find a google phrase to learn about this stuff....)

Well, really no options. Thanks for the offer with the cd. Searched every cd i had to find something; only found ie6 which won't run on 95.

Btw: solved the problem (and answered my own post) with ftp://ftp.software.ibm.com/pc/pccbbs/mo ... tpfw95.exe. An older version that doesn't require IE4. Took long enought to find it, but it's there.
