New Look

I'll have to say that although, I'm a basic black guy myself, when push comes to shove: the only real issues that will make by buy or not buy a ThinkPad is Performance/Build-Quality and the Trackpoint. If that eraser-head goes, so do I!!!
Family Daily Drivers- T430s, T530, X220
Work- Sadly, the ThinkPads have gone away...... and replaced by HP ProDesk SFF drone machines :(
Other Projects- Edge 15, Z61m (Titanium)
Historic Retired ThinkPads- T42p, X20, A31p, 701c, 760XD, WorkPad C505

Did I like the looks of the "old models"? Yes absolutely, especially since my favorite color is RED. Would I have preferred they keep the Red & Blue trim on the buttons, of course I would.

That said, once I allowed time to adjust to the new colors and design changes I am once again very happy with my new 60 series ThinkPads.

Being someone who is very passionate over design as well as functionality, I must remind myself that first and foremost it's the tool that I use for my work.

ThinkPads are simply too superior to the competition for me migrate to something else. If perhaps my laptop was not mission critical to my work and if I was not such a "hardware guy" then perhaps it would be different.

Finally I have used ThinkPads, most specifically the T series since they were first introduced. I cannot imagine by briefcase or backpack without my RAZR cell phone and my ThinkPad....:D

Although i am a Hong Kongese(dunt try to say i am a chinese, i hate it), an asian,
I am strongly disappointed with Lenovo .
It really ruins the history and style of Thinkpad
Len is making the THinkpads more likely to other normal brands notebooks.
At past, when seeing a black polygramal feel notebook with corners, u would at once know its a Thinkpad by the RGB color company-IBM (the name i called it when young)

Now..there is no more shadow of the grand classical IBM style.
Just see how Lenova drowning the thinkpads in the ocean .

I think both the old and new Thinkpads are very sharp. Its funny, before I got my Thinkpad, I thought they were just about the ugliest laptops in the world, and sitting next to one of the Powerbooks I have at home, it would be even worse. I was wrong. They dont have the smooth curves and shiny metal finish of a Powerbook, but they do have sleek corners, no protrusions, and an overall straight shape that sets them apart and say, "I aint a cheap laptop, im a Thinkpad!"

I've really grown to like the professional looks 600 series as well as the T2x but then someone sent me an old ThinkPad 750P and I don't think anything can beat the styling on this. I don't think anything can top the retro industrial look that this thing gives off; especially when folded out into tablet form. Sure the 360P and 360PE use the same case but the monochrome screen (as opposed to 360s color LCD) and rubber paintjob (which the 360s lack) really do go to look more professional in my opintion.

I think that the high-water mark for ThinkPad appearance was the X20-X24. With their rubberized palmrests and tight build these things just felt like money.

The recent X3x and X4x were close (haven't seen an X6x in person yet), but they don't ook or feel quite as luxurious as the X2x did.

Compared to PowerBooks ThinkPads are just different. PowerBooks also exude class and style, just in a different way. The new MacBook (the black one anyway) is also very stylish, combining elements of PowerBooks old and new and the rubber-like ThinkPad finish to make another uniquely stylish machine.

It is very pick a favorite (styling wise) among them. The PowerBooks, especially the small 12", is probably the closest I could come to a favorite laptop design, though my hatred of all touchpads makes it a very reluctant choice. My current ThinkPad X41 would also take favorite honors but for the tiny hard drive and my dislike of Windows. Perhaps if I get OS X installed on it my ranking will change.

I do have to agree to an extent here. It's also notable that the 760, 765, 770 and 600 laptops featured rubberized palmrests. While they do look better when new, they seem to show wear and tear easier than the plastic palmrests stadard now. Still, I consider that excusable given how much more comfortable the rubber paint makes the whole typing experience.

No argument from me. That is one of my favorite things about the black MacBook (the white ones aren't rubberized).

I dont care about the buttons. However, if I -had- to choose, it would be the old ones.
But its not like Lenovo has turned the whole ship of Thinkpad design around. Its a mere facelift.

As long as a Thinkpad has a professional look (unlike some Dells with LEDs and metrosexual MacBooks) and have the minimum downtime they have always had, I will keep on using and buying them. Especially with my work.
Actually, I wouldnt mind a T60 at all.
...and I actually liked the Titanium-lid Z-series. It has a very bright design feature, but done in a very cool Thinkpad way. I mean, the touch of the raw titanium. Sweet.

Anyone who finds a laptop in any way sexual, metro or otherwise, seriously needs to get out more.

I agree, well said! I just purchased a new 14.1" R51e for my son, for only $625! with 512mb upgrade it was less than $700 to my door. Reminds me of the T22 I loved with the red trimmed mouse buttons, no touch pad, and the classy looking power and volume buttons. This is the first time I have ever purchased such a basic computer. In addition, I'm really amazed at the performance. Perfect for his college work, and if (when) he loses or drops it. I'm not out $2k. This is one sturdy ThinkPad, it is every bit as well built as my T60/X60s/Z60m machines.

Now that I have had my new 60 series ThinkPads for awhile, I'm quite happy with the all black keyboard design, and the improved super accurate touchpad. It's a nice alternative, even though I use the trackpoint 98% of the time. Having a choice between the two is the ultimate.

So for those of you that cannot or choose not to embrace change, there is still time to get a R51 series with the old (but nice) styling. The wide array of configurations should fill anyones requirements.

After reading the last many posts here about computers, girls and attrictiveness of the two, I suppose it's time to update the dictionary. "Robosexual" shall be the new word for people on this forum who find computers (even though the term I have coined comes from "robot") attractive in the same way they would another human.

Proper usage of the term could be as follows:
"Have you been looking at naughty pictures of computers with their cases off again? You are so robosexual...

Its not the laptop itself, but the statement the design represents.
But I guess its a matter of taste.

Actually, even though that R50 might be a male, I *do* know for a fact that my T43 is a female; Anatomically. Now, everybody may be thinking, "Chris, just how do you know that?"

Think about it now, everybody; you know, *think*. No, no, no, harder, faster too if possible....Hit the climax of the thought yet? Haven't come to a solution?! Very well, here is a stim...hint; think of one of my most favorite pointing devices. That's all the hints you are getting tonight. Nonny would kick my butt into orbit if I gave more direct hints on this. :D

Ironically, "Girlfriend is Better" came up on my Winamp playlist by the Talking Heads; up next is "Swamp" by the Talking Heads and "Yours Truly, 2059" by ELO. :D

Well, if it's the pointing device that determines gender and your T43 has the TrackPoint and TrackPad, does that mean the comptuer is really trans-gender?
