Does the BIOS not recognize the hard drive, or does the windows/linux installation disk not recognize the hard drive?

What OS are you trying to install?

Have you updated the BIOS?

Does your system have a floppy drive?

You might have to go to Toshiba's website and see if they have a firmware disk (or files) that you can download. Using this disk might help recognize the hard drive.
