Possible to upgrade display to sxga on T43 2668-83U ?
I got this yesterday at a pretty good price but am not happy with the display. Is it pretty simple to upgrade just the display or does it involve more than just the screen? i.e. card?

yes. see FAQs sections.
It won't be easy but it doesn't look that hard either.
BTW, did you not know you were getting the regular XGA?
I'm asking because there are some guys on eBay selling XGAs T43s as if they were SXGAs.
They use pictures showing a SXGA screen, but don't specify that the T43 for sale is not SXGA but XGA. I almost bought one, but I read the feedback and saw that someone got scammed by the good ole' bait and switch.
Now, I would always ask before, even if there is a picture. BTW you can get a new SXGA screen for between $400 and $600+ on eBay. Plus the SXGA connectors can be gotten for cheap elsewhere.
And the DIY swap (going by what I read in the T4xmanual.pdf via the FAQ section ) doesn't look like it would take a bold and average-ly intellegent person more than 3hrs with a screwdriver to do.
good luck.

Hi
I actually bought it from someone on Craigslist. The thing is only 1 month old and I got it for $900.00 bucks. I really liked the sxga I had on my T40 but for this price and a bigger screen, I couldn' pass this up.

wow, thats an awesome deal. I think the SXGA upgrade may cost you about $500 max...so that is a really good deal considering you can sell it back on ebay after the sxga upgrade for $1600 and up.muffd wrote:Hi

Yeah, it can be done. Keep in mind that you need the correct LCD and correct cable for the LCD, and know the HMM by heart.
im not sure how easy the 15" SXGA is to find, but i would try to find the UXGA if i were you and i had the 15" model... i upgraded my 14" T40 to the SXGA for $220.

hold on a sec:
Lithium are you sure they make 14 sxga's?
you know that SXGAs = 1600 x 1400 and is normally found on 15 inch lcds, whiles UXGAs = 1450 x 1020 and is common for 14.1 inch lcds.
I can't imagine a 14.1 incher with SXGA capability and 1600X1400 native res. That would be impossibly small.
Most people/salemen and the like carelessly use SXGA and UXGA interchangebly but the understanding of what they mean is hi-resolution for either 14.1 or 15 inch LCD respectively.
So if you see SXGA 14.1 inch LCD I'm sure they mean a 14.1 screen with a native res. of 1450x1020.

SXGA+ = 1400x1050. Comes both on 14" Thinkpads and 15" Thinkpads
UXGA = 1600x1200. Comes with 15" P-model Thinkpads only.

really?
I may have reversed the numbers with the labels.
But, at any rate my main point is that you don't have a 14.1 inch LCD with 1600x1400 native res. or you won't have a UXGA 14.1 LCD
I hope that was clear and "true information"
sorry about the mix up. I guess I gotta change my sig now!
opps!

Just to clear things up, I did have an SXGA display for my T40p and the max resolution was 1400x1050. I wouldn't mind the UXGA for my T43. Do I need to upgrade the video card as well or is just the display enough?
