600X problem istalling XP

#1 Post by Markus » Fri Jul 23, 2004 7:20 am

During a routine Virus System scan my Thinkpad 600x crashed..
Being unable to recover and not having any importand personal files on the HD I decidet to do a low level formatting of the HD. and reinstall XP
having done the LLF I cant isnatll XP anymore.
Installation ex CD gives following response. "file ohci1394.sys is corrupted" after you hit enter- system reboots...
Having read that this problem can be avoidet by using the start-up disk's
instead of loading direct ex CD , I then proceedet to do that.
All 6 disk's load but then I get a blue screen with the msg:
"C0000221 unkown Hard Error\system Root\System32\ntdll.dll"
Any help would be appreciated.!!
Thanks

Your message says that you load the six diskettes and get an error before any CD activity. So I would say it is a hardware error (and ultimately may be the reason why your working XP installation crashed in the first place).

Well,
Now I'm stumped...
Just for the *** I did try to install Windows 2000 instead of XP from the set-up disk ( 4) and voila, it worked. I then did an upgrade to XP
without any problem. I love to get an answer to that one!!
Best regards

Did you use the correct setup disks? There is one set for XP and a different set for XP SP1. I found that out because the first set didn't work with the XP SP1 CD, but it didn't halt the way you noted. ... JDHurst
