How to fix system time on my A31p? Nobody knows.

#1 Post by savarin » Sun Mar 12, 2006 9:21 pm

Nine months ago I bought a A31p, used, but under warranty. It works perfectly, there is only one problem - system time changes spontaneously. System date does not change.

I did not and do not open it (it is under warranty).
TP was five times serviced. And it will be again. Servicemen changed motherboard and 4 times changed CMOS battery.
But after some 3 - 4 days system time started to vary again.
When I asked them what is the reason of such a behaviour of TP they said me they did know.

Do you have the same experiences? Warranty of my A31p ends in July and I do not know what may happen ...

Could be a real time clock (RTC) problem that should be covered under warranty.

Are you synchronizing the time with anything? Either a PDA, or a network time source via NNTP?

Yes, I am synchronizing via internet time (built in WinXP). Time zone is set correctly - GMT + 1. When I do it manually it works.

My guess is the synch is getting the wrong time or wrong time zone from the server sometimes. Try another server.

You could also temporarily disable internet time synching and see if the problem goes away.

That is totally new idea for me!! I was concetrating on hardware ... and maybe the reason could be found on the net!

I am going to try it.
Thank you very much.

My problem is SOLVED !!!

One week ago I disconnected my A31p from all internet time servers and everything is OK. System time does not change.
From now I will synchronize only manually.

Thank you once more, egibbs.
