Creating Product Recover Disks on T43

#1 Post by davidski » Mon Mar 13, 2006 1:17 pm

How many CDs does the create recover disc program require to create a product recovery set for a T43p? I've paused the creation program as it is currently asking for a 12th disc. While it does seem to be writting something to the disc, each of the last 3-4 CDs I've fed the program seem to have no data files on them. Is this normal behavior for the program?

Thanks for the help.

The IBM RnR makes six CDs or one CD and one DVD for a full set. Be careful to go ahead and use the IBM RnR Program and *not* the Windows Reovery Disk Generator as the Windows option will not include the HPA.

Thanks to you both. I am definitely using the IBM branded recovery disk creation utillity (3.01.0037.000 according to Software Installer), yet both times I've tried running the utillity I've created 11 or more disks with no end in sight.

I haven't been able to find any information about this sort of problem occuring either here or on the IBM support site. It sounds like this is an unusual problem?

Sounds to me like you are using the Rescue and Recovery program, which makes a backup of your hard drive, instead of the Create Recovery Media program. You should be at Start > All Programs > ThinkVantage > Create Recovery Media > Recovery Discs, to make the Product Recovery Disc set.

Thanks for the response. I'm afraid that is the program I have been using, with the option of "Recovery Discs" being selected. With the last disc containing actual recovery files (these being files that appear to match the approx. naming format of those found in the RECOVERY directory of the IBM_SERVICE partition) being around disc 7, it sounds like this is some sort of local problem that is causing the R&R program to continue requesting disks past the numbed needed.
