Error message

#1 Post by mav » Mon Mar 13, 2006 5:08 pm

After trying to download and update my RnR package I think I may have corrupted the program during install such that the CSS part is no longer recognizing my passphase. Needless to say I had to enter BIOS in order to bypass the security chip. I found out that the CSS does not work properly nor does the RNR program. Tried to remove the program through the Thinkvantage Software installer and Windows XP only to get this error message:Error 25002 Error installer the SMI driver. So now I can't even remove the program and do a fresh install. Any suggestions on how to fix this will be much appreciated.

Error 25002

#2 Post by brugan » Thu Oct 05, 2006 11:57 am

Ditto. I was trying to update R&R to ver. 3.10.0017 and received the same message:

"Error Installing The SMI Device Drivers"

From what I've been able to discover it's related to an incomplete uninstall of a previous version, but I haven't tried to proceed further yet.

Anyone else run into this?

Thanks!
Good Luck!

This is probably rootkit associated with SpyCatcher.

I know def. that it's SpyCatcher b/c I've used ThinkVantage backup so many times, and everytime I installed SpyCatcher, all sorts of problems began to occur.

Once, I didn't install it, and I could use my computer peacefully for about a month.

I just started experiencing the exact same problem, and I do not have SpyCatcher installed. Any other ideas?

Both CSS and RnR are stuck halfway between on and off. I cannot uninstall either programs, nor can I upgrade/reinstall ontop of them...

I'll have to check the Lenovo site to see if any older RnR's are still there. Do you remember which older version fixed the problem?

For CSS, it will not let me put v6 ontop of v7, and I cannot uninstall v7.

i dont remember which one exactly, because actually i didnt know which one i had in the first place, so i had to go to lenovo's website and download ALL available versions. i tried the setup files one by one, and one of them actually worked. i have my old RNR back, IBM_SERVICE partition back also, updated RNR with another "a bit earlier" version. and now all going well. good luck.

Can you start RnR, then press About and tell me which version works for you? Also, which version of CSS are you running? CSS version is displayed when it starts.

Error 25002 Error installer the SMI driver

#11 Post by Rolloclan » Mon May 21, 2007 1:09 pm

I have personally done several tests about this error and this is what I have found:
1st. The error is generic to the 3000 series; we don’t seem to get the same error on the T60s for example. Well that is the only two systems that we tested.
The funny thing is that if you uninstall RnR in Windows Vista then go to the system update page it will notice that RnR is not there and allow you to download and install it from there, under optional updates. However, this option will not work for Win XP. Remember this is only on the 3000 series. On the T60 it will find the update regardless if you are using Vista or XP. Go figure. I am not a raving fan of Vista yet but this did work for us in our testing. Very interesting!
2. There are a couple of things that might help, as I am sure that the responses above have helped some but probably not all.
3. If the resolutions above have not worked then you might want to try updating your BIOS. Going to the Microsoft web site for updates and or System updates for Lenovo or IBM computers don’t seem to find the latest bios update. Once we downloaded and installed the update for the bios, we were able to install RnR with no problem.
Different Bios update in different ways and from different web sites. However, if you go to the Lenovo support web site you should be able to find most of the bios updates there.
BTW I think that I should let you know that I even edited the registry, no luck, I deleted the RNR folder out of the SWtools directory still no luck. So I believe that I have tried everything imaginable. And once the Bios is updated it didn’t require us to download CSS, just FYI
If you have any questions please let me know.
