600x cd/dvd not recognised

#1 Post by Rniblett » Mon Mar 13, 2006 6:19 pm

Have a strange problem I'm hoping someone can help with.

Just bought a bare 600x (2645-4eg) to upgrade from my 600e. It refuses to recognise any cd/dvd drive fitted in the bay (tried two different drives), no power to the drive (won't eject) and there is no flash from the drive light on boot. Everything else works perfectly, even a floppy drive in the bay works perfectly!

Have flashed the bios to latest and no difference. Someone suggested reinstalling windows, but as the drive seems to have no power, can't do this and I don't think is a windows problem. Searched the forums but found no similar reports.

Am I doing something wrong, or is it a peculiar fault with my 600x?

Any tips greatly appreciated ...

Sounds like a loose connector inside the ThinkPad.

Thanks AK, do you think that's what it may be? seems strange that everything else is ok, even floppy but just not cd's - incidentally, I know the drives are ok cos tried them in old machine. Is it easy to get to the bay connectors? never stripped one down before ...

The hardware maintenace manual will have information on opening up your laptop computer. You can find it on the FAQ.
