Please read: X60s is nearly half a pound lighter than X60.

Hello

I ordered the x60s due to its lower weight, lower heat and longer battery life.
( x60s L2400 at 1.66GHz. Vs x60 T2400 at 1.83GHz. )
I am not a gamer, so I don't really think I will notice the 8% increased clock speed, and I don't feel many people that use a thinkpad are that concerned about maxing their clock speeds in an ultraportible anyway.
But it seems that from these detailed specifications links I found hidden on their web site ( with the most accurate info), I WILL notice the X60s nearly half pound lighter weight difference, and make very good use of it's much longer battery life, due to the L2400 chip operating at less that half the wattage of the T2400 chip

X60s L2400 : 15 Watts
X60 T2400 : 31 Watts

A 106.67% wattage increase for a 8% faster clocked chip

x60s: 2.69 pounds.
x60: 3.15 pounds

A 14.6 % weight difference between the two models.

Your needs may be different, but after compairing the above specs,
the x60s was the right choice for me.

the 2.69 is supposed to be only for the japanese model with the ultralight screen/slim 4-cell/4200 rpm drive. The US models are all 3.00lbs

2.69 lbs? Boy, that sounds nice.

Let us know which model you ordered, I'm curious.

If you look at the X60s' under the TABOOK, one of them is marked "UL XGA" for the screen. This is the LED-backlight screen, thinner and lighter. I wish they came in more models, I want a high end X60s WITH the LED-backlit screen.

Hmmm. I see what you mean.

Guess we'll have to wait and see if any more models like this pop up.

X60s weight.

#8 Post by rexy » Wed Mar 29, 2006 2:03 am

Hi I stand corrected, my machine 170463U weighs 2.90 pounds. not 2.69.
It is still under the three pound weight listed somewhere on their web site.

It was weighed with:

The 4 cell slim battery which I ordered extra attached.
The basic XGA screen.
The 60Gb 5400 r.p.m. H.D. it came with.
And the two Gb of Ram I added to it installed.

rexy, what was your original ram? Did you put 1x2GB ram, not 2x1GB ram right? May I ask where you bought the ram from?

I am going to buy an extra 1GB ram for my 512MB X60. However, I heard that I should install the same amount of ram in pair. So I am wondering if 1GB will work with 512MB system.

Memory upgrade.

It came with the base 512. I removed that, and added two 1 Gb chips ( 1G|CORSAR D2 667 VS1GSDS667D2 ) that I purcashed from newegg for $ 100.00 dollars each. They arrived the next day!. (from their NJ warehouse to me in N.Y.C.)

I feel my Thinkpad x60S is much faster now.

Here is the link to their site.
Hope it helps. Nick.

P.S. if you can afford it, fill both slots at the same time, with the same brand, I did that, even though it meant having an unused extra 512 chip left over.
p.p.s. anyone wants my leftover 512 chip, contact me first and I will send it to you for free, I'm not using it.

how did you change the built in ram?

#11 Post by newthinkpad » Wed Mar 29, 2006 3:06 am

How did you change the standard ram? I've called and they told me the initial ram is really difficult to change. Thanks

I've emailed you and would like the free ram. Thanks

Wow, 2.90 pounds. That's lighter than the lightest weight (3.00 lbs) stated on the Lenovo site for X60s. I guess the exact weight differs from one machine to another, even for the same model. Like my X22 (2662-9DU), it's advertised as 3.7 lbs, but mine is only 3.48 lbs.
