Thinkpad 600x - TV out has disappeared!

#1 Post by Lomax » Tue Mar 14, 2006 1:51 pm

Hello,

I'm hoping that someone here has expereinced this problem and knows what's up:

TV-out was working fine on my 600X using force installed v5.36 IBM drivers (as documented elsewhere the Microsoft driver supplied with win2k lacks the NeoMagic tab in Display properties -> Advanced)

A couple of days ago we were going to watch a film from the laptop and I discovered that the TV out option had disappeared completely from the NeoMagic tab (it was NOT greyed out, it simply wasn't there at all) and that TV out no longer supplied a picture.

In trying to restore the functionality I have tried the following:

Changed screen resolution & bitdepth to 800x600 16-bit and 8-bit and 640x480 16-bit and 8-bit. I have rebooted the computer between screen resolution changes. (I was already aware that you need to lower resolution/bit depth to use TV-out.)

Changed setting in BIOS for Dual Display on and off many times in combination with the above.

Made sure the TV was switched on and plugged in (composite) before booting the computer in combination with the above.

Updated drivers to v.5.39 (IBM). This changed the name of the display adapter in device manager from "MagicGraph" to "MagicMedia" but everything else remains the same.

After trying everything I can think of for a good couple of hours (I'm pretty stubborn) I have to admit myself beaten. I have also had a long look here in the forum for possible answers but could find no posts specific to my problem. If anyone has any clues your input would be much appreciated! Has my TV out sub-card died completely?

Many thanks in advance,

Lomax

Sounds to me like the little card or its cable have come loose inside the laptop, and so Windows has stopped detecting that it's there. Worth a shot.
