FS: Custom IBM T40 (56k warning - 8 pics)
Some of you may remember this laptop, and my quest to upgrade it. I have put a LOT of work into this and upgraded it substantially from its original configuration. I tried to get my wife to take it, but she insisted on keeping her Dell widescreen lappy (don't get me started on this).
Since I have some extra processors, memory, and hard drives at the moment, you have the rare opportunity to customize it to your heart's content and have it shipped to you as you like it. Please note that the LCD alone on this machine is worth $200-250.
The BASE PRICE is $650 (shipped via FedEx Ground). Please do not PM or email me with offers below this starting point.
IBM Thinkpad T40 (2373-75U)
- 14.1” SXGA LCD (1400 x 1050) – this was upgraded from the XGA standard. PERFECT condition (not a single dead pixel, light or dark spot, or scuff/rub)
- 256MB PC2100 DDR SDRAM
- 40GB 5400 RPM Hard Drive
- Intel 2200BG MiniPCI Internal 802.11g/b wireless (upgraded from the 802.11b Atheros it came with, this is the IBM part, not a generic that has been hacked to work)
- Processor: 1.6GHz Dothan (400FSB/2MB)
- Optical Drive: 24X CD-RW/DVD-ROM Combo Drive
- Video: ATI Radeon 7500 32MB (on motherboard)
- Integrated 56k Modem
- Integrated Gigabit Ethernet
- Battery: holds about 2h charge (~150 cycles, ~32% wear)
- AC Adapter
- T40 Restore CDs included (Windows XP Pro w/ COA sticker)
Cost of Upgrades:
PLEASE NOTE: IF YOU WANT TO BUY ANY OF THESE PARTS OUTRIGHT, THESE ARE THE PRICES FOR THE UPGRADE FROM THE BASE CONFIGURATION. THE OUTRIGHT PRICES (SHIPPED) ARE IN ().
Memory
--> 512MB (2 dimms): $15 ($15 shipped per 256MB)
--> 512MB (1 dimm): $20 ($38 shipped)
--> 1GB (2 dimms): $75 ($38 shipped per 512MB)
--> 2GB (2 dimms): $160 ($95 shipped per 1GB)
Processor
--> 2.0GHz: $160 (SOLD)
--> 2.1GHz: $260 ($350 shipped)
Hard Drive
--> 60GB 5400RPM: $25 ($65 shipped)
--> 80GB 4200RPM: $40 ($75 shipped)
--> 80GB 5400RPM (model 5k80): $50 ($85 shipped)
--> 80GB 5400RPM (model 5k100): $60 ($90 shipped)
The casing is in EXCELLENT condition except for one small scratch on the LCD cover (about ½ inch). Nothing is broken or shows any signs of abuse (remember, this was my BABY).
Because of the LCD upgrade, the remainder of the original warranty is void (Aug 2006), but I can give the buyer a 30-day DOA / satisfaction warranty.

Yeah, I can ship across the ocean.
The shipping weight will be approximately 10-12 lbs after a good deal of packaging is put into place. That would be $45-50 total shipped via USPS (of which I will cover $15, b/c that is about how much it would cost me to ship it in the states).
Do you have customs/import fees? If so you will have to cover those.

laptop came yesterday -Everything is in incredible condition! I mean really really incredible condition - I have a T41p that looks older than this T40 i bought off Brent
Also Amazingly we worked out an evil scheme to avoid customs duty (he was shipping internationally from The United States to Dublin, Ireland)which i won't go into here but it involved shipping the hard drive seperately (among other things) lol!!!
Wonderful experience brent, much appreciated, and those hand written "notes" were priceless.
