Warranty upgrade snafu

#1 Post by r50cheapskate » Tue Mar 14, 2006 7:07 pm

Shortly after buying my ThinkPad I bought a one-year warranty upgrade to add on-site, next-day service for that year for $49. I was told that I could extend that later by paying the full price of the longer warranty upgrade. (Yes, I know even if you buy a two-year upgrade after one year, you only get one year.)

Anyway, I called just now to extend my warranty and was told that I was only eligible for one upgrade per machine, contrary to what I was told by the insurance sales guy at what was then (I think) IBM (May 2005). Not good, and it totally sours me on Lenovo. Could it be the sales guy I talked to was wrong, as call center operators often/usually are?

I upgraded the warranty on my X40 to onsite. The salesman made it clear to me that I can only upgrade the warranty once, so be sure to get as long as you want the first time (I decided to switch from a 2 year to a 3 year onsite).
