Battery charging issues

#1 Post by norris14 » Wed Mar 15, 2006 11:36 am

I have an A30 that does not charge correctly. I have another A30 that works fine, so I have been able to swap batteries and adapters, and both are fine.

Here's the deal. When I am on AC power, it works fine. When I unplug the adapter, there's no beep, and the icon doesn't change to battery. However, the battery gauge will go down, like it should. When I plug the adapter in again, no beep, and it says something ridiculous, like 24 hours to fully charge. At first I thought it wasn't charging at all, but I found it is charging, but very slowly. I left it charging overnight, and it went from 27% to 54%.

When comparing charging numbers in the "battery information" section of the Battery MaxiMiser, here's what I found:

Bad charging A30:

Current: .05 amps
Voltage: 11.88 volts
Wattage: 0.57 watts

Good charging A30:

Current: 1.65 amps
Voltage: 12.31 volts
Wattage: 20.02 watts

This is a comparison of both laptops charging the same battery, which was at about 45% capacity, and is rated "good" in the battery health section.

What the heck is causing the wattage to be so screwed up on the bad one????

Does anyone have experience with this?

Put a multi meter to the "good one" and check the V and amps (if you can) and do the same with the "bad one" - compare values. Sounds like your brick is clinging to life.
