Is Access Connections (4.11a) compatible with PCI adapters?

#1 Post by kidziti » Wed Mar 15, 2006 11:20 pm

I'm wondering if AC is only compatible with IBM/Lenovo adapters. My new Linksys G (SRX400) card is seen by AC, but the check box is unmarked while the other two built in adapters (the Intel wired MT and the a/b wireless built-in) are checked. If I go ahead and check the box for the G card and try to configure it, it doesn't work anyways. It does work with XP configuration, but not AC. Is there a trick to this?

Mostly. AC generally at least recognises the existance, and allows basic profile configuration with, the generic versions of removeable network cards that IBM sells in an IBM specific OEM version (such as the Intel 2200BG/2916ABG) but its mostly otherwise unaware of any removeable network devices which IBM does not supply.

Cheers,

Bill

I use Orinoco 11abg gold PCMCIA card with it's own driver on T21. It works well with AC 4.11a. Also I use Asante 11bg, AL415G card with it's own driver
on T40 running XPrp Sp2 and it works well too. Soon I'll be installing mini PCI card on T40 as soon as I receive it.

Hmmm - seems as if at least some non-IBM/Lenovo external WiFi adapters work with AC 4.11a. Any general hints on getting AC to work with external cards - or better yet, any specific steps to getting it to play well with a Linksys G (with SRX) adapter? I'm inclined to take the SRX card back if it won't work with AC, but the SRX card and the SRX wifi router purportedly work well together in increasing range and speed while decreasing dead spots (gee - if I can get it to work, maybe I can comment on that from experience...). So perhaps my question is not how to get the Linksys card to work with AC but rather should I just go for the IBM internal/external cards instead? I currently have a T40p with internal a/b adapter.
