Listening to the news on the way home they are cutting 300 in Research Triangle Park here in NC. But they are going to move 400 or so to Morrisville NC from somewhere New York :)

its bad enough tech is being outsourced to india and taiwan as it is , uprooting estalished positions in areas then relocating to other states might be good (depending on many many factors) in the long run, but it sure as hell sucks for the affected community and state!!!

Agreed, North Carolina has lost thousands of jobs in the last 10 years in the textile industry, there are literally hundreds of factories closed now, most of those jobs went overseas and to mexico.

The upside for the state is it's increasing hi-tech industry, dell opened a plant maybe a year ago, companies are constantly looking for tax friendly places and pleasant working conditions for their employees, and believe me these plants get plenty of tax breaks from the state, it is almost criminal. North Carolina tax payers will be paying for that dell plant for years to come. Guess it's not always a "win win".

Isn't there a saying:

"When you can't beat them, join them."
