Opinions of the X41 Tablet

#1 Post by Chrispy » Thu Mar 16, 2006 3:46 pm

I looked at some other threads regarding the X41 Tablet but a lot of them where from when it first came out. I was wondering what people's opinions are of it now that it has been out for a while. I am thinking about getting on since they are on sale right now. Would be able to run photoshop and InDesign CS2 comfortably on it with 1.5GB Ram? I have a T43 right now but it is kind of large and loud with fan noise. I may sell that and get a desktop (or return it since I am still within 30 days). Would the X41 tablet serve my basic needs if pared with a desktop. I am looking for some user opinions here. Thanks in advance!

Personally, I think the X41-T is a great machine. It does everyhting it is suposed to. It is light and portable, very compact and will run all the typicall functions and programs a person on the go needs. As far as having a desktop to back up the tablet, it is the only way to go, IMO. I have both the tablet w/dock and a Desktop PC,linked with a KVM switch. Seems like a great combo to me.

I agree with Greg, PhotoShop will be painfull!

Thanks for the replies so far. I love the speed of the T43 but the fan noise is driving me crazy. It would also be nice to have a smaller computer.. but the T43 is pretty small as well so I'm not sure what to do. Dell is running a great deal right now for a dual core computer and 17" UltraSharp monitor so I am tempted to order that and call Lenovo to return my T43.

If I am within 30 days can I return the T43 and exchange it for the X41 Tablet without having to pay a restocking fee? Thanks in advance for your opinions and help.

Hey Chrispy, i am in the same boat as you. I like my T43 but the fan noise, weight, battery life (compaired to the X41T) is why i might switch. I am lucky as mine is company owned and we can just reditribute the T43 else where. Personaly i think if the X41T was my only computer i would not go for it. But now i have a desktop at work and my T43 spends most of the time doing nothing except when i travel. So i have a feeling i might switch.....still deciding as i will go from 1400x1050-1024x768, and no i will not go to Toshiba....been there done that and swiched to IBM and have not looked back.

I called IBM today and setup a return on my T43. I ordered the X41 tablet that was on sale for St. Patrick's Day and got an extra digitizer pen and an extra AC adapter. I also ordered a Dell E510 with a dual core 2.8 Pentium D and a 20" widescreen Dell 2005FPW monitor. This duo should serve me well I would imagine :)
