t40p plugging drive into usb2 port, 1.1 speeds!?

#1 Post by Cpgeek » Thu Mar 16, 2006 4:59 pm

I have a usb2 drive and i'm using the cable it came with and i've used the drive on other usb2 computers with success and i've used this drive on this particular computer with success but now for whatever reason i plug it into my t40p and windows tells me that i'm plugging a hi-speed drive into a low-speed port.

I thought maybe the drivers weren't installed so i grabbed the chipset drivers from the support site and no go.

I don't think it's the logic board replacement issue i saw elsewhere on this site as it worked on this computer before (with a preveous os install, i've since restored).

any ideas?

faced the same issue after a motherboard replacement. They suggested i reload my battery maximizer software, still no effect, could it be a bios issue after a recent upgrade ?

I'm going to assume you're running XP, but what service pack is installed?

Up to SP1a, the USB2 Enhanced Host Controller was not automatically installed during OS installation. The user had to go in and manually install the driver. In SP2, this was done automatically.

If you are running SP2, it still might help to either have XP reinstall the USB2 Enhanced Host Controller driver (through Device Manager) or uninstall it and have XP redetect it again and install the driver.

Today had to format my hard drive and the same thing happen to me.

What i do to to fix it?

1-I install all the updates from microsoft.
2-In the device manager then right click on the ? yellow icon and then choose to update the driver, after that the updater ask me if i would like to connect to the internet to get the driver and i click yes.
3-Wait like three minutes and Voila! resolved.

Good luck..
