Thinkpad 600E now wireless!

#1 Post by Legend66 » Fri Mar 17, 2006 11:48 am

after alot of time, hundreds of restarts, driver searches, USB transfers, typing encypted WEP kes and router resets I am pleased to announce to this great forum that I am now wirelessly connected to my router 2 storeys downstairs (linksys WRT54G) with an old, dodgy looking £5 card from ebay!
Its amazing having 2mb broadband on my laptop!:) waiting on my 30GB HD to arrive now :D

Im so glad i got this great little machine, it seems faster than my dell 2.4GHZ downstairs!!! im running clamwin antivirus and ad-aware for protection (i dont pay for anything if i can avoid it!) and firefox helps with browsing speed too. i never envisiged id be using this thing for anything other than a music centre with winamp, but i never guessed it would be able to cope with other applicaitons so well. I suppose there isnt much point in this thread but hey, thought id just let ya know!

i also have recently purchased a 600e, and i agree that it seems very responsive, quick and able to handle all the new technologies, and then i got a dlink wireless net work adapter, and a whole new world opened up for me. having a Desktop is great, i love mine, but there has to be something said about having a laptop.

Welcome to the thinkPad community.

:D hey for a minute i thought i was losing it here,
for the record my missus is running a tp600 e p111 @540/108fsb/128mb,40gb 7.2k hitachi server drive.
on wifi and even my daughter noticed it seemed faster than
a p4 2.4 /512ram decent set up desktop drilling through her games on the internet!
heck havn't even installed the cache enabler as yet
over 2.5 hrs full internet on one 4.2ah 3 yold battery.
these thinkpads are the best,so damm dependable, versatilte (no wonder i ditched my centrino 58 minute max full tilt internet job)

This is true. I've been using a slugish Thinkpad 600 over my adsl wifi router, using a compaq wifi pc card i bought BNIB from ebay canada for 7CAD about a year now!

You bet this seems nuch faster than my primary laptop A31p ( i guess win98se helps a bit ), still, i am now planning to upgrade it to it;s limits, since i am not planning to get a divorce from it soon.

This should really do the work for some years more. ( thank god ebay that i can find almost every part needed in order to maintain it properly )

Long live the 600 series!
